Back from our trip to Rice over the weekend. Despite losing the series, can't be disappointed in getting a win against the #2 Owls. They've only lost 1 of their 26 series since joining Conference USA.

Reckling Park continues to be one of, if not, my favorite ballparks. It's like a smaller version of AutoZone Park and has the best vantage point for calling a game. Special thanks to Rice SID John Sullivan for the cake yesterday, not sure if it was someones's birthday, but I didn't ask....just ate the cake.

Speaking of AutoZone Park, the baseball team opens up a four-game stand downtown beginning Wednesday against Ole Miss at 6:30. This weekend will be a bit odd. The St. Louis Cardinals are coming in for a couple of exhibition games against the RedBirds. So, we'll play Friday at 10am, Saturday at 6pm, and Sunday at Noon against UCF. Here's you chance to skip out for an early lunch Friday and watch the Tigers downtown!

It's time for March Madness! The Tigers will play their first round game against California State University - Northridge.

There will be a Tiger Watch Party for this exciting game this Thursday, March 19, at 11:25 a.m., in the Rose Theater. The game will be telecast live in the Main Theater at Rose. For those who would like to bring their lunch, the game will also be shown in the Entertainment Lobby at Rose.

After a Tiger victory on Thursday, the next game will be this Saturday against the winner of the game between California and Maryland. The Rose Theater will also host a Watch Party for this game. Check the media or the Tiger Athletics web site for the time of the game on Saturday.

Come out and join other Tiger fans to watch these games in the Rose Theater!

Brought to you by your friends in Student Affairs.

Women's basketball finished up their season last Thursday at the CUSA Tournament in New Orleans. Unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to pull out an upset over Marshall, but it was still a good first season for Coach McFerrin. Most wins since the 04-05 season and Paris Leonard made the All-Conference team. I flew down the day of the first game, taped the Coach's show, then hit Acme Oyster House for a late lunch. I flew out at 6am Friday to get back to Memphis for the baseball game.

Baseball team is finding their new "Home away from home" very friendly. The Tiger swept Valparaiso over the weekend to improve to 6-5 and are now 5-1 at USA Stadium in Millington. We're planning on taping coach Rock's video show this morning before we bus down to Mobile to face South Alabama in a two game mid-week series on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Back in Memphis but not for long. Good road trip to end the season for women's basketball. Nice to end the year with a win at Southern Miss in over-time. We were able to play spoiler because Southern had to win that game to tie for the CUSA regular season title. I'll be in Murfreesboro Tuesday and Wednesday for baseball. I checked the forecast after all the nasty weather this weekend. It looks good, should be mostly sunny both days but a little on the cool side for Tuesday's series opener. This will be my first look at Middle Tennessee's new Reese-Smith Field. Remember last season, Jason Redd and I sat in a bus in the right-field bullpen during construction. Middle Tennessee is a tough place to win, I've only called one Tiger victory there the past five seasons. After Wednesday's game, I'll fly out Thursday morning to New Orleans to catch up with the women's basketball team which opens CUSA Tournament play Thursday night at 8:00 against Marshall. We're still looking for that elusive first win over the Herd and it couldn't come at a better time. Here's what the broadcast schedule looks like for the weekend on WUMR.

Tuesday Baseball at MTSU 4:00 Wednesday Baseball at MTSU 3:00 Thursday WBB vs Marshall CUSA Tourny 8:00 Friday Baseball vs Valparaiso 4:00 (PENDING) WBB at CUSA Tourny 8:00 Saturday Baseball vs Valparaiso 2:00 OR WBB at CUSA Tourny 4:30 Sunday Baseball vs Valparaiso 1:00 OR WBB at CUSA Tourny 2:30
