Busy
time of the year for me coming up. I'm about to have men's and women's
basketball overlap with baseball. Looking foward to it, because I usually get
to call several games within a week.
Women's
basketball has a very important home-stand this weekend. The Tigers are
currently 6-3 in league play and tied with Houston and Tulane for first. We
need to take advantage of our home games so we can stay at the top. With seven
games remaining, four are at home. Southern Miss comes to town Friday at 7:00
and UCF visits on Sunday at 2:00. We beat both of them on the road earlier in
the season, but both are playing better, especially Southern Miss.
Baseball begins next week and there's lots of activity at FedExPark both on the field and with the facility -- lots of last minute work going on. If phone lines are ready for next weekend, Andrew Vandeventer will be calling the first three games at FedExPark. Andrew did the fill-in work last year and did such a good job, we've decided to bring him back. Memphis starts off with a very tough MTSU team that is pre-season top 30 in several polls.
I'll be posting again on a regular basis now that the new format is ready

Wow I just noticed the new blogs could take comments - that's great! if you're okay with answering questions - what road trip are you looking forward to most this year?
And I'm confused about the C-USA tournament this year. Are eight teams still getting into the play or is that changing?
I hope we can get a few wins against MTSU, even if we don't get the sweep!
Thanks for the questions Riyuji,
1. I guess I'm looking foward to two different trips at the end of the season. First of all, Southern Miss. It's one of my favorite places to go in Conference USA for baseball. Extremely knowledgeable fan base, always a big crowd, and the game day experience is alot of fun. Plus the new press box they built a few seasons ago may be the nicest I've been in at any level.
2. This year's CUSA Baseball tournament will feature a new format. They are only taking six teams, so you better be pretty good if you're planning on getting to Houston this season. The sixth place team in CUSA usually has right around 30 wins. We will have the same format as the Missouri Valley Conference. Two three-team pods, seeds 1,4,5 in one and 2,3,6 in the other. You play the two teams in your pod and one from the other. The two pod winners play for the tournament title on day 4.
3. This weekend will be a challenge, MTSU is a top 30 team with one of the best players in the country in Bryce Brentz.
