Tiger baseball is still on the road. We'll leave from Hattiesburg this morning and make the seven hour ride to Houston to the Conference Tournament at the University of Houston.

The Tigers won game 2 of the series at Southern Miss to clinch a tournament spot, so it ended up that we had to have that win. If we had not won a game this weekend, we would have been in a four-way tie for fourth and been the odd team out. Ends up, four games separated second place from last when the dust settled. The conference was so bunched up that two-32 win teams didn't make it this year.

Memphis ends up finishing third, its highest finish ever in CUSA and there are several similarities between this year and the last time we won a Conference Championship in 1995. For the first time since 95, the Tigers did not get swept in a conference series. Also, in 1995, the Tigers were 27-27 going into the Great Midwest Tournament where they won the championship. This year, the Tigers are 27-28 going to the tournament in Houston.

You have to wonder what could be looming around the corner for baseball the next few years, the team will have eight players that saw significant time in the line-up, five of them were sophomores and one was a freshman. The offense could be pretty potent the next few years. If coach Rock can find a Friday and Saturday night starting pitcher to replace Ryan Fraser and Brennon Martin, we're going to be very tough to beat the next few seasons.

Hopefully we can take the momentum of the second half into Houston. This could be a great week to establish momentum for the future, and heck maybe get a ring.
