Whether it is playing in a summer league, waking up early before work to do sprints or lifting, or just getting out and working on our weaknesses, I know we're all determined to come back to Memphis as better soccer players than we left in the spring. But I won't lie, it is hard work to be pushing, sprinting, lifting, and shooting while your friends are all out sitting on a boat tanning. Having to leave our support system -aka- teammates, trainers and coaches, and daily routine of school and soccer really makes us become accountable for ourselves in the summer. Yes, we all still stay in touch through email or occasional visits, but in essence, the weather gets hot, you have no school, and you pretty much make your own schedule.
Having said all of this, it is great that the coaches give us a summer packet which basically gives us a plan on how we should be working out from May up until the day we get back in August for preseason. It's like a booklet full of our lifting, sprinting, ball workouts, and nutrition. I'm not going to lie, many of us dread getting this packet in the spring, but I think it's safe to say that we all know that we have to put the work in to get the results we want.
As a senior, I think I have a greater appreciation for preseason, considering I'll never go through it again, so I figure I better just be prepared and enjoy my last one! And really I know we all dread 2 a days and fitness and everything, but getting to spend several weeks with some of your best friends in the world playing the game you love is priceless (especially when you don't even have to go to classes yet!). On that note, I can't wait to get back into the swing of things this season...I think since the day we stepped off the field at LSU last year after playing Texas A&M we've been dying to get back out and WIN!! Let's go TIGERS!!!!
