Hard to believe that the regular season is over, but here we are, reaching the end of our season. We had our last regular season game on Thursday, senior night, against UAB. Feels like deja vu? Last year we were in a similar position going into the final game of the season on senior night against UAB. It was a huge game because if we won, we clinched second in C-USA, earning ourselves a bye in the tournament. We knew UAB was going to come out hard and give it their all because they needed the win to even make it into the tournament.
Despite whatever motivation UAB came into the game with, we came out harder and in only the 10th minute Ashley Berra finished one, although the relief of that first goal was short-lived as UAB quickly bounced back in the 15th minute to tie it back. After battling it out for the remainder of the game we finally finished again with thirteen minutes to go. It was such a great win to end the regular season with, especially for our seniors on their last time playing at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. Each and every one of the seniors has brought something special to this team and I'm going to miss every single one of them!
Friday was a light practice, and Saturday we spent the day volunteering as a team going door-to-door "trick or treating" for non-perishable food items for the food bank. Sunday being Halloween, we had practice bright and early, in our costumes! Quite a way to start the day. We had some very interesting costumes, but a few of the freshmen took home the prize by dressing up as old people.
And here we are again preparing for conference tournament. This is always my favorite time of the year. No matter what ups and downs we have faced throughout the season, we always seem to unite and come together as a team during conference tournament. We head to Orlando, Fla., on Thursday and play the winner of Houston and Marshall on Friday. Eek, it gives me chills just thinking about it. Looking forward to a great week of practice and an even better weekend! Go Tigers !!
