The Billy J. Murphy Track Complex has served as home for the track and field squad since 1971.The facility has under gone major renovations that were completed in December 2013. The renovated facility features a state-of-the-art track surface, expanded throwing areas, plus expanded jump pits and pole vault areas.
The nine lane track features Beynon surfacing, one of the premiere surfaces in track and field. The reconfiguration of the track also allows for an expanded a grass infield area.
The expanded throwing area boasts features for both competition and practice. Located on north end of the complex, the set-up includes two hammer/discus throwing cages separated by shot put practice rings. A separate ring and landing area has also been constructed for actual shot put competition.
New pole vault and long jump/triple jump areas each consists of four runway configurations that accommodate for wind from the north, south, east and west. Additionally, the renovations feature an expanded high jump area.
After a one year hiatus for renovations, the facility once again played host to the Memphis Invitational in March 2014. In the future, the complex will also serve as home for the Tigers' men's and women's soccer teams.
