Tigers Place 228 Student-Athletes on C-USA List

IRVING, Texas - The University of Memphis placed 228 student-athletes on Conference USA's Commissioner's Honor Roll during the 2012-13 academic year, Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced on Thursday. The 228 student-athletes represent the highest number placed on the honor roll by a conference institution.
This is the seventh-consecutive year the number of Memphis C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipients has increased. Last year, Memphis placed 218 student-athletes on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
"I am extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes", said Memphis Athletics Director Tom Bowen. "Their work in the classroom is a tribute, to not only themselves, but to our coaches and to Bob Baker (Director of Athletic Academic Services) and the advisors in our academic center.
"Our commitment as a staff is to make sure that our student-athlete has everything needed to receive a degree from the University of Memphis and obviously, our student-athletes are doing their part to make sure they reach their ultimate goal in the classroom."
Student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
UCF ranked second with 227 student-athletes named to honor roll, while Rice ranked third with 215 student-athletes on the list.
A record 2,566 student-athletes conference wide earned Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition. The total number honored is an increase of more than three percent from a year ago.
Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better will also receive the Commissioner's Academic Medal. Those winners will be released on Friday.
