Student-Athletes Reach Out to Thank Donors
April 17, 2014
University of Memphis student-athletes have been reaching out this week to personally thank contributors to the Tiger Scholarship Fund whose donations help fund scholarships for Tigers Athletics. Over 100 student-athletes representing every intercollegiate athletic program have staffed a phone bank this week calling TSF donors to thank them for their support.
"People were very surprised but very appreciative," said Haleigh Ross, a freshman catcher on the Memphis softball team following a shift making calls. "This is something I don't think a lot of colleges do - athletes calling their donors just to say thank you. I thought it was great."
This is the first Thank-A-Thon for the Memphis athletic program in over a decade. Memphis student-athletes are attempting to reach every Tiger Scholarship Fund donor during the week, all told nearly 3,000 TSF donors.
In addition to thanking donors for their contributions, the phone calls have provided an opportunity to briefly share how donations impact the lives of student-athletes.
"I am getting to talk to people who support me, my team and all the teams at the University of Memphis," Ross said. "It has made me appreciate where I am and all these people who support me but don't even know me."
