Senior Class Honored at M Club Luncheon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - The Class of 2012 was recognized at the annual M Club Senior Awards Luncheon Thursday afternoon. A handful of awards were presented at the banquet and all the student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility were recognized as the most recent additions to the M Club, the Tigers' official letterwinners organization. A pair of academic awards was presented at the luncheon. Parker Duncan from the men's soccer team was named the M-Club Male Scholar Athlete while Tara Telford from women's soccer received the Female Scholar Athlete Award.
Duncan is a six-time member of the Dean's List at Memphis and sports a 3.88 GPA in biology. The pre-med major is also a three-time honoree with a perfect 4.0 GPA and has been named to the C-USA Honor Roll all four seasons at Memphis. A NSCAA Scholar All-South Region honoree, Duncan was also a CoSIDA Academic All-America second team honoree. Duncan, who plans on attending medical school, is also a four time C-USA Commissioner's honor roll honoree.
Telford sports a 3.96 GPA with a major in Mathematical Sciences and with a minor in Risk Management in Insurance. She has been a seven-time member of the Dean's List and had one perfect 4.0 semester. She is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist and member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Cody McCoy from the Tiger soccer team was named the Zach Curlin Award Winner as the program's top male student-athlete. McCody played 66 games at midfield for the Tigers with 61 career starts. The biology major was instrumental in the Tigers' 11-6-1 record in 2011, including wins over No. 9 UCF and No. 18 Bradley. As a midfielder, he was named to College Sports News' list of 25 "Team Linchpins-Indispensable Players" and was the 2010 recipient of the Tommy Smith Spirit Award, given to the player who exemplifies high academic standards, dedication, love of the game and sportsmanship.
Lizzy Simonin was named the recipient of the 2012 Elma Roane Award as the department's top female student-athlete. A NSCAA All-America first team honoree and the winner of the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, Simonin was a two-time C-USA Defensive Player of the Year and was a first team all-C-USA honoree. She helped the Tigers to a fifth straight conference championship and the Tigers finished with the season with a program-best 22-1-1 record and 15 shutouts. The Lee's Summit, Mo., native sports a 3.81 GPA and is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree.
