Thirty-Eight Tigers Receive Commissioner's Academic Medal
May 7, 2008 IRVING, Texas - - Thirty-eight student-athletes from the University of Memphis were named recipients of the 2007-08 Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal by the league office, Wednesday. Memphis finished second in the league in medalists, behind Tulsa's 41 honorees. The Commissioner's Academic Medal is presented to those student-athletes who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher during the past academic year. Volleyball and baseball each had six honorees on this season's list, as both teams also placed a majority of their respective rosters on the C-USA Academic Honor Roll that was released yesterday. Baseball had 25 of its 37 players with over a 3.0 GPA and had six honorees with a 3.75 or higher GPA. Volleyball placed all but one player on the Honor Roll and had six players on today's Academic Medalist list. Football and women's soccer were next with five medalists. Women's soccer, which won the C-USA conference championship this fall and placed 24 of its 28 players on the conference honor roll, had five medalists on today's list.
