55 Tiger Student-Athletes to Graduate Saturday
May 7, 2010 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - The University of Memphis graduating class of 2010 includes 55 Tiger student-athletes. The graduation ceremonies will take place Saturday at FedExForum. The morning ceremonies will be at 10 a.m. and will include graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Communication and Fine Arts and the University College. The afternoon ceremonies will be at 2 p.m. and will include graduates in the Fogelman College of Business and Economics, the College of Education, the Herff College of Engineering, the Loewenberg School of Nursing, the School of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology and the School of Public Health. Graduation ceremonies are free, but parking in the FedExForum garage costs $5.00 per vehicle. Graduates need to be at FedExForum an hour ahead of time, leaving plenty of time to navigate expected heavy traffic and to find parking. The Tiger football team will have 19 graduates in Saturday's ceremonies, while the Tiger baseball team has eight graduates, who could miss their ceremonies due to a 2 p.m. game against UAB at FedExPark Saturday afternoon. The men's track and field program will have six graduates, while women's soccer and volleyball lead the women's athletics teams with four graduates apiece. The complete list of graduates is below. Shawn Ablett, Baseball: Shawn Ablett came to Memphis in the fall of 2008 after an all-star career at Richland Junior College. A two-year letterwinner for the Tiger baseball team, Ablett was one of the club's top newcomers in 2009 as he gave Memphis positive offensive production from the catcher position. In his career at Memphis, Ablett has made 67 starts in 70 games. He bats .271 with 35 runs scored, 34 RBI, 10 doubles, five triples and five home runs. The Van Alstyne, Texas, native has put together 15 multi-hit games in his career. He led Memphis with nine multi-RBI outings in 2009. Ablett had a solid junior campaign, leading the Tigers with four triples, while ranking third on the club with a .297 batting average, 30 RBI and five home runs. He collected 55 hits in 50 starts and was one of the top clutch sticks on the team, hitting .321 with runners in scoring position. Ablett's career was highlighted by a strong showing against No. 2 Rice in 2009. He hit 545 (6-for-11) in the series, in which he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI to help Memphis to a 10-7 win in the series-opener. He followed that performance by collecting two hits (including his first Division I home run) and registered three RBI in a 2-for-3 night against the Owls. Ablett will receive his degree in interdisciplinary studies...Van Alstyne, Texas/Van Alstyne HS/Richland Junior College. Marc Ashley, Baseball: Marc Ashley is one of two four-year lettermen to graduate from the Memphis baseball program this spring. The Collierville, Tenn., native has racked up 116.2 innings in several capacities on the Tiger's pitching staff. In 50 career appearances, Ashley has made 16 starts. He has 73 strikeouts against just 51 walks. Tori Dalton, Women's Soccer: A four-year letterwinner for the Lady Tigers, Dalton departs the U of M with three C-USA Championship rings. She finished her career with 11 goals and 11 assists as a midfielder for the Lady Tigers. With 59 wins in her career, Dalton is a member of the winningest class in school history. Dalton graduates with a degree in criminology and criminal justice. Belleville, Ill./Belleville HS. Brach Davis, Baseball: A fifth-year senior, Davis has battled numerous injuries to carve out a solid career at Memphis. Davis, who serves as a co-captain for the 2010 baseball team, has worked primarily as a starter in four years in a Memphis uniform. After making two starts before suffering season-ending injuries in each of his first two campaigns, Davis worked his way to the Tiger's No. 3 starter role and finished the 2009 season as Memphis' Friday night starter. In two seasons as a weekend starter, Davis picked up four wins in 25 starts. For his career, the southpaw has 108 strikeouts in 124 innings. He put together a career season in 2009. He started in all 12 games he appeared in and collected a pair of victories against Kansas and College World Series participant Southern Miss. A native of Southaven, Miss, Davis added a career-best 53 strikeouts and held opponents to a staff-low .278 batting average as a junior....Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS. Jorgen Ekdahl, Men's Track and Field: A three-year letterwinner for the Tiger Track and Field program, Ekdahl has competed as a distance specialist for the U of M. Ekdahl has represented the Tigers in the 3,000m run, 5,000m run, 3,000m steeplechase and cross country. The Gotenberg, Sweden native finished the 2009 cross country season with a season-best time of 27:27.20 at the C-USA Cross Country Championship. Opened the 2010 outdoor season at the LSU Relays with a personal-best time of 15:37.61 in the 5,000m run. Eric Farrell, Baseball: A native of Collierville, Tenn., and a product of former Memphis coach Jeff Hopkins Collierville High School program, Farrell was a two-year letterwinner for the Tiger baseball team from 2007-08. He came to Memphis prior to the 2007 season after spending his freshman season at Birmingham-Southern University. He played a vital role in the Tigers 2007 NCAA Tournament run, serving as a backup infielder at second base, third base and shortstop. He made 11 starts, but was excelled as one of Head Coach Daron Schoenrock's top reserves. He batted .500 in 12 games as a reserve and finished the '07 season with a .302 average and 10 RBI. He put together several solid outing in 2007, including going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a career-high three RBI vs. Middle Tennessee (3/20/07). He posted a career-best three hits vs. Murray State (4/10/07). Farrell started in 45 of 49 games as the Tiger's second baseman in 2008 and drove in 16 RBI. For his career, Farrell started in 56 of the 872 games he appeared in. He hit .220 with 31 runs, 26 RBI and nine doubles...Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS/Birmingham Southern. Ryan Fraser, Baseball: Fraser transferred to Memphis after an impressive two-year stint at Gulf Coast Community College. A 49th -round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2006, Fraser worked into the Tigers weekend rotation for his first nine starts before helping anchor the bullpen en route to a three-win campaign in 2009. The 6-3 right-hander returned even stronger for his senior season and has put up some of Conference USA's top number in 2010. The Cleveland, Tenn., native currently leads C-USA in strikeouts and ranks in the league's top-10 in innings pitched and wins. His 82 strikeouts in '10 are the most by a Tiger pitcher since 2004. A two-time C-USA Pitcher of the Week honoree, Fraser highlighted his two-year career with a pair of complete-game victories against Tennessee Tech and Houston. He fanned a career-high 12 to help Memphis to a 6-1 triumph over the Golden Eagles on March 20. In one-plus season at Memphis, Fraser has nine wins in 25 appearances. Pierre Henderson-Niles, Men's Basketball: A four-year letterwinner from 2007-10, Henderson-Niles was a member of Tiger basketball teams that posted four-straight 20-win seasons and earned four-consecutive postseason berths (3 NCAA, 1 NIT). He played on the 2007-08 Memphis squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament championship game and posted a 38-2 record. In his four seasons wearing the Blue and Gray, Henderson-Niles was a part of 128 wins (128-20 record), the eighth-most victories for a four-year class in NCAA Division I history. The Memphis, Tenn., native played in 110 games and averaged 2.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in his career. A career 46.8 percent field goal shooter, he also had 41 blocked shots and 36 steals in his four seasons. The 6-foot-8 forward posted career highs for a season for scoring average (5.2 ppg), rebounding average (5.2 rpg) and field goal percentage (48.6 percent) as a senior in 2009-10. In his final season, Henderson-Niles recorded career highs for points (15 vs. IUPUI), rebounds (11 vs. Arkansas State) and blocked shots (5 vs. Oakland) in a single game. Katlin Inglish, Volleyball: A three-year letterwinner on the volleyball court, Inglish will graduate on May 8 with a bachelor of professional studies in family & consumer sciences with a concentration in fashion merchandising and minor in marketing. She currently has a 3.92 GPA and will graduate Summa Cum Laude. A native of Bellville, Texas, Inglish has had a solid career, registering 478 kills and 339 digs heading into her senior season. Inglish saw limited time as a reserve in her redshirt freshman season, but earned a starting spot as a sophomore and put together a career season. She started in 27 matches and was the top attacking option with a team-leading 918 total attempts. Inglish finished second on the squad with a career-high 286 kills and 2.44 kills per set as a sophomore. She posted a career-best three double-doubles in 2008. She pounded out 175 kills and made 139 digs as a junior. Kaufmann transferred to Memphis after single seasons at Armstrong Atlantic State and Middle Georgia College. He split time behind the plate in 2008, hitting .200 in 17 starts. Willie Kemp, Men's Basketball: Called a "winner" when he arrived on the University of Memphis campus in the fall of 2006, Kemp continued those winning ways throughout his four-year career. Kemp was a member of Tiger basketball teams that posted four-straight 20-win seasons and earned four-consecutive postseason berths (3 NCAA, 1 NIT). He played on the 2007-08 Memphis squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament championship game and posted a 38-2 record. In his four seasons wearing the Blue and Gray, Kemp was a part of 128 wins (128-20 record), the eighth-most victories for a four-year class in NCAA Division I history. The Bolivar, Tenn., native played in 147 games, the fourth-most appearances in school history. Kemp also placed his name on the career charts for three-pointers made (No. 6 with 162 treys) and three-point attempts (No. 6 with 456 attempts). The 6-foot-2 guard finished his career with 795 points, 341 assists and a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio. As a senior, Kemp averaged 7.4 points and 4.3 assists (led team) and shot 37.1 percent from the three-point line. In his final regular season home game at FedExForum, Kemp went out in style, dishing out a career-best 10 assists in the Tigers' 75-53 win over Tulsa. Seth Major, Men's Track and Field: A NCAA Qualifier in 2008, Seth Major is a two-year letterwinner after transferring to the University of Memphis from Rend Lake Community College. The Decatur, Ill. native is a five-time All-C-USA performer. Earned his fifth All-C-USA honor at the 2010 C-USA Indoor Championships with a seventh-place performance in the shot put. After a stellar first year as a Tiger, Major was sidelined with an injury and redshirted the 2009 indoor and outdoor season. The 2008 C-USA Newcomer of the Year finished the 2008 C-USA Outdoor Championships with a second place finish in the discus throw and third place in the shot put. Major graduates with a degree in criminal justice. Decatur, Ill./Meridian High School. Doneal Mack, Men's Basketball: Mack is a player that will be long remembered in Tiger basketball lore. In his final regular season home game at FedExForum, Mack netted 14 points, and on his "Senior Day" curtain call in the game's closing minutes, he bent over the Memphis Tiger logo at midcourt and gave it a kiss. The 6-foot-5 guard is the first Tiger basketball player to do so. Mack was a member of Tiger basketball teams that posted four-straight 20-win seasons and earned four-consecutive postseason berths (3 NCAA, 1 NIT). He played on the 2007-08 Memphis squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament championship game and posted a 38-2 record. In his four seasons wearing the Blue and Gray, Mack was a part of 128 wins (128-20 record), the eighth-most victories for a four-year class in NCAA Division I history. Mack, who played in 145 career games (fifth-most in school history), joined the Tiger 1,000-point club as the group's 46th member with his 15-point performance versus East Carolina in early January. The 6-foot-5 guard finished his career with 1,191 points, which placed him in the No. 27 spot on the Memphis all-time scoring list. His name also appears on the Tiger career three-point charts for treys made (No. 3 with 239) and attempts (No. 2 with 675). Mack scored a career-high 23 points versus UMass in 2009-10. He hit a career-best seven three-pointers in a win over Pepperdine as a sophomore in 2007-08. The seven treys are tied for the third-most for a single game in Tiger history. Eryka Morris, Women's Track and Field: A multi-event athlete for the Lady Tigers, Morris has completed her track career in the record books. Morris helped set the indoor distance medley record at 11:56.33. Morris is an All-C-USA performer in the pentathlon in which she finished fifth at the 2007 C-USA Indoor Championships. Emiko Schwab, Women's Soccer: A four-year letterwinner for Memphis, Schwab played in 78 matches for the Lady Tigers. The midfielder finished her career with 14 goals and 11 assists. Dane Sharp, Baseball: A redshirt junior on the field, Dane Sharp will receive his degree in marketing management. Sharp, a product of Bartlett High School, is a two-year letterman on the mound for the Tigers. Sharp redshirted his true freshman season and did not pitch as a redshirt freshman, while rehabbing an arm injury. Sharp made his way to the mound for the first time as a sophomore in 2009 and provided the club with eight solid outings. In those appearances he went 1-0 with 12 strikeouts, while posting a 5.84 ERA. As a junior, the 6-4 right-hander has put up career numbers in innings pitched (20.2), appearances (11) and strikeouts (16). Stewart's best finish of the outdoor season in 2010 came at the Memphis Tiger Invitational where he posted a third place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.54 seconds.
