Hello American Athletic Conference, We Are Memphis:

On July 1, the University of Memphis officially became a member of the American Athletic Conference. Beginning today, brings a daily introduction of each sport at the University of Memphis to the American Athletic Conference.

Retired Jerseys

Since the University of Memphis first fielded an intercollegiate football team in 1912, only five jerseys have been retired - No. 8 Charles Greenhill; No. 20 DeAngelo Williams; No. 30 Dave Casinelli; No. 79 Harry Schuh and No. 83 Isaac Bruce. No. 64 will be the sixth jersey retired as John Bramlett's jersey will be retired on September 7 when the Tigers meet Duke in the season opener.

Coach Justin Fuente's First Leadership Council

Head Coach Justin Fuente selected 10 student-athletes to lead his first Leadership Council across position and playing classification lines. The 10 student-athletes were relied on by the coaching staff to lead the program both on and off the field.

Academic All-America/Academic All-District

In the last 10 years, Memphis football has had 13 players student-athletes receive Academic All-District or All-America.

100-plus Rushing Yard Games by DeAngelo Williams

DeAngelo Williams holds the NCAA record with 34, 100-plus yard rushing games during his career at the University of Memphis
DeAngelo Williams rushed for 6,026 yards during his Memphis career. 

Wins Under Coach Billy J. Murphy (1958-71)

Memphis recorded 91 wins during the 14 seasons Billy J. Muphy served as head coach of the Tigers (1958-71). The University of Memphis' football practice facility - the Billy J. Murphy Athletics Complex - is named for the former coach and athletic administrator.

NFL Draft Picks

Memphis has had 108 players selected in the NFL Draft. Among current American Athletic Conference members, Memphis ranks fourth with its 108 selections all-time.

All-Conference Selections

The University of Memphis had 118 players honored as first or second-team selections or named all-freshman teams by Conference USA.

Tigers End Bowl Drought

In 2003, Memphis ended what was then the nation's longest bowl drought. The Tigers defeated North Texas 27-17 as the team went on to play in five bowl games during the decade.

A New Beginning

After winning its last three games as a member of Conference USA, the Tigers begin play this fall in the American Athletic Conference.
