Martin Named CABMA Manager of the Year
July 11, 2013
Stacy Martin, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Business Operations at the University of Memphis, has been selected by her peers as the College Athletic Business Management Association's (CABMA) Manager of the Year.
CABMA's Manager of the Year is chosen annually by the association's membership from nominations of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the profession of athletics business management and who are full CABMA members.
Martin joined the University of Memphis staff last fall, accepting newly-created hybrid position which reports to be Athletics Director Tom Bowen as well as David Zettergen, the university's Vice President for Business and Finance.
She has been active in CABMA, serving a five-year term on the association's executive committee including president of the organization.
"It is quite an honor when your colleagues recognize you as one of the best in your profession," said Bowen. "This award reflects what I have known for years. Stacy is one of the best and brightest athletic administrators in the country. I am honored she is a member of our staff."
Prior to accepting her current position at Memphis, Martin served the previous two and a half years as the Assistant Athletic Director for Business at Kansas State University. She joined the K-State athletics department from her alma mater, San Jose State, where she served as Senior Associated Athletics Director/Chief Operations Officer and Senior Woman Administrator.
When she joined Kansas State's athletics staff in 2010, the department faced a $2 million projected deficit. Within her first year she worked to promote efficiency and cost containment. In May 2011, USA Today recognized K-State as one of just 22 athletic departments in the nation to operate in a surplus for the 2009-10 academic year and one of only five to do so while decreasing expenses from the previous year.
In addition to fiscal oversight of the department's annual budget, among Martin's duties at San Jose State was football scheduling and sport administration for baseball, women's basketball, women's volleyball and gymnastics. In 2009, she was named the West Region Administrator of the Year by the women's gymnastics coaches in the Pacific and Mountain time zones.
Martin holds membership in the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA), Beta Gamma Sigma (International Honors Society for studies in Business), Women in Sports Careers (WSC), National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) and the Golden Key International Honor Society.
Martin's career in intercollegiate athletics began after lettering four years and serving as a team captain of the San Jose State women's gymnastics team.
The 2002 SJSU graduated majored in business administration and corporate financial management and she also earned an MBA from SJSU in finance in 2005.
