On July 1, the University of Memphis officially became a member of the American Athletic Conference. Beginning July 8, GoTigersGo.com brings a daily introduction of each sport at the University of Memphis to the American Athletic Conference. Memphis Among Nation's Top-10 For Student Internships

The University of Memphis has one of the top-10 most successful internship programs of any college or university in the nation, according to the "Short List," published by U.S. News & World Report. At the U of M, 52 percent of students held internships prior to getting their undergraduate degrees compared to the national average of 36.9 percent for the class of 2011, the year the data was compiled. U.S. News surveyed more than 1,800 colleges and universities to compile the list.

Memphis Makes U.S. News & World Report Teacher Prep Review Honor Roll

The University of Memphis' elementary and secondary teacher preparation programs were ranked on the U.S. News & World Report's Honor Roll in its first Teacher Prep Review in 2013. Memphis was one of only 13 schools in the nation to earn high ratings in two or more programs, suggesting a strong institutional commitment to teacher training. The Review evaluated 1,200 elementary and secondary programs nationally.
Memphis' elementary and secondary teacher preparation programs received national distinction in the U.S. News & World Report's first Teacher Prep Review in 2013. Allyson Chick (above) was named the 2012-13 Tennessee Teacher of the Year.

University's Centennial Celebration

The University of Memphis just completed its Centennial Celebration in 2011-12. The year-long celebration began Sept. 10, 2011, which honored the opening of the University - then called West Tennessee State Normal School - on Sept. 10, 1912. In addition to the year-long festivities, 100 uniquely designed life-size Tiger statues were unveiled on Sept. 10, 2011, and they were placed throughout the campus and city of Memphis.
