Oct. 3, 2012
Dr. Joe Luckey, who has served as the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Academic Affairs at Memphis for more than 10 years, is leaving the University to be become the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Support Services at the University of Cincinnati.
Tiger athletes have excelled academically during Luckey's tenure, setting academic standards and graduation rates ranking among the top institutions in the country. Memphis' 400 student-athletes have obtained an average GPA of 3.1 over the past three semesters and those student-athletes that complete their eligibility are graduating at a 90% rate.
"I truly hate to see Dr. Luckey leave the University," said Athletics Director Tom Bowen. "He has taken our academic standards to a different level and has accomplished an amazing turnaround in the overall classroom performance of our student-athletes.
"However, I can also understand his desire to his return to his hometown," Bowen continued. "I certainly wish him the best of luck in all of his future endeavors."
Luckey is expected to serve at Memphis through the end of this month. An interim director will be named and the search for his replacement will begin in November.
