SAAC Collects Over 4,000 Pounds of Canned Food Donations

The University of Memphis Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program recently participated in a conference-wide food drive competition between all Conference USA institutions.

The food drive was held from November 8th through November 14th. Collections were accepted at Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, and Football games throughout that week. Various campus organizations such as the Student Dietetic Association, School of Public Health, and Division of Business Finance: Bursar Office also pitched in to help with the collection of food. Not only did the Bursar office contribute to the can food drive but also won the competition amongst departments on campus!

Most of the food donations came from the University of Memphis student-athletes whose teams competed against each other to see who could collect the most food. The winners of the campus competition were the Men's and Women's Track and Field and Women's golf teams. rack and Field collected nearly 1,600 canned goods while Women's Golf collected almost 200 just amongst their 14 team members.

The total amount collected from the food drive was 4,053 pounds. All donations were given to the Memphis Food Bank. The winner of the Conference USA competition will be announced sometime in January.
