December Student-Athlete Scholars of the Month
Dec. 17, 2013
U of M student-athletes are wrapping up the fall semester by placing some good impressions on the CAAS staff. Juniors Lauren Hawkins and Nykiren Wellington and Freshman Raul Gonzalez have been named the CAAS Scholarly Athletes of the Month for December.
Lauren Hawkins, volleyball player from Rowlett, TX, is a straight A student studying as a Physical Education Teacher Education major who has excelled significantly in the classroom during her athletic season. Hawkins always has an upbeat attitude about her demands of athletics and academics and is proactive about meetings with her advisors. Hawkins is also successful on the volleyball court by being named Second Team All-Conference and leading the team in hitting percentages.
Nykiren Wellington, football player from San Antonio, TX, has been successful while majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies this semester. Wellington holds A's and B's in all of his classes while having a positive attitude and strong work ethic during study hall. Wellington works independently to get ahead academically and is always seeking ways to be involved on campus.
Raul Gonzalez, men's soccer player from Ocean Springs, MS, has set a positive path for himself during his first semester as a student-athlete. Gonzalez currently is holding A's and B's in his coursework and is always improving. Gonzalez always has a great attitude and work ethic and is very respectful to the CAAS staff.
Dedication and determination are two ways to accurately describe these three student-athletes. Not only are they successful in their respective sport but also in their academics. CAAS is proud to have these student-athletes to work with each week.
