Eddie Cantler has been a part of the University of Memphis athletic department staff since receiving his undergraduate degree from then-Memphis State in 1974. He currently serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Support Services. In that position, he oversees event management for men's and women's soccer and Tiger baseball games and has also served as the tournament director for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 C-USA men's basketball tournaments at FedExForum.
Prior to his promotion to an Assistant AD spot in August of 2004, Cantler spent his earlier career as the head athletic trainer at Memphis for 25 years. A native of Bowling Green, Ky., Cantler came to Memphis in 1970, and received his undergraduate degree in biology in 1974. He later received his master's degree in health education in 1976.
Cantler is also the host of a local television show, Trainer's Corner, a show he has hosted for the past 14 years. He was inducted into the Tennessee Athletic Trainer's Hall of Fame in 1996. Cantler, who is also the director of music and liturgy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, has been honored as the state's Trainer of the Year in 1994, and received the NATA Athletic Trainer Service Award in May of 1998.
Cantler is married to the former Jenina Martin of Memphis, who received her doctorate degree from the U of M. She is currently the director of conference housing in the residence life area at Memphis. They have two sons, Michael and Andrew.
