Memphis Rifle Finishes Fifth at Withrow Open Behind Four Top 10 Teams

MURRAY, KY - The Memphis rifle team topped Ole Miss but finished fifth in a field of six top 15 teams at the Withrow Open, shooting an aggregate score of 4631.

The Tigers shot a 2312 in the smallbore competition and a 2319 in air, falling behind three of the top four programs in the country. No. 1 West Virginia topped the scoring with a 4710, No. 2 Kentucky followed them with 4683 and the No. 4 Jacksonville State Gamecocks finished third.

Freshman Amy Fister had a great showing in smallbore, finishing second in the field of 50 shooters, posting a 587 and finishing just five shots back of Kentucky's Emily Holsopple and just ahead of No. 1 West Virginia's Garrett Spurgeon.

Senior Dan Hermsmeier and sophomores Elizabeth Lee and Nathan Brandeburg each posted a 575 smallbore score, all tying for the 23rd spot. Junior Max Burkhardt closed out Memphis' top five with a 569.

Hermsmeier led the Tigers in air rifle, tying for the 15th best score of the day with a 587.

Memphis saw two more Tigers land top 50 air scores with Lee shooting a 581 and Fister posting a 577.

The Tigers now get set to travel to Jacksonville, AL where they'll go head-to-head against No. 4 Jacksonville State.
