No. 9 Memphis Rifle Falls to Ole Miss by One, 4646-4645

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Despite a pair of 100s from freshman Amy Fister and sophomore Nate Brandeburg during Air Rifle, the Memphis rifle team fell to Ole Miss by a single shot, 4646-4645, on Tuesday at Rangemaster.
The Rebels led all shooters in smallbore and air rifle. Melissa Quartarone topped smallbore with a 585 and Alison Weisz led air with 594.
Memphis won the smallbore competition, edging Ole Miss by five points, posting a 2300 led by senior Dan Hermsmeier's 580. Fister and sophmore Elizabeth Lee claimed the three and four spots, shooting 578 and 575 respectively.
Junior Max Burkhardt and Brandeburg closed out the Tigers' top five scores. Burkhardt putting up a mark of 567 and Brandeburg eight shots behind him with a 559.
In the air competition, it was Hermsmeier and Lee leading the way for the second straight match; each shooting a team high 593.
Fister, Burkhardt and Brandeburg went on to claim the seven, eight and nine spots; shooting 580, 579 and 577 respectively.
Senior Jimmy Zaken posted a 564 air rifle mark and added a 543 smallbore score on the day.
The Tigers will now host No. 13 Navy in their final home match of the season on Sunday at the Rangemaster.
