Rifle Finishes Fifth at NCAA Sectional

MURRAY, Kent. - The University of Memphis rifle team finished fifth at the NCAA Sectional held at Pat Spurgin Rifle Range, site of the 2004 NCAA Rifle Championships, Sunday. Memphis posted a team score of 6105, behind Murray State (6156), Tennessee Tech (6151), Kentucky (6143) and Jacksonville State (6122). The Tigers finished ahead of teams from Kentucky (White), Mississippi, UT Martin, Austin Peay State and UAB.
Memphis scored a 4573 in the small bore portion of the scoring, and a 1532 in the air rifle. Beth Tidmore led the squad in both events, scoring an 1172 in the smallbore and a 390 in the air rifle for an aggregate score of 1562. Katie Benjamin added a 1531, finishing with a 1147 in the smallbore and a 384 in the air rifle while J.B. Vaughn added a 1504 (1129 in smallbore and 375 in air rifle). Brian Phillips competed in the small bore, finishing with an 1125, while Sarah Carr added a 383 in the air rifle. Overall, Memphis finished sixth in the smallbore and fourth in the air rifle.
The Tigers will face Murray State, March 7th at RangeMaster in Memphis beginning at 10 a.m.
