No. 6 Memphis Rifle Finishes Fifth at NCAA Qualifier

MURRAY, KY - The No. 6 Memphis rifle team traveled to Kentucky over the weekend to compete in the NCAA Qualifier and posted an aggregate score of 4649.
The mark was the fifth best score of the qualifier and along with the average of the team's impressive scores from the regular season, the Tigers hope to qualify for their second NCAA Championship appearance. Memphis' last appearance was in 2005 when their were selected for the air rifle competition.
On Sunday the Tiger started out strong in the smallbore competition as senior standout Dan Hermsmeier led the way with a 582 and Memphis only top 10 mark. Sophomore Elizabeth Leecame in just three points behind Hermsmeier, posting a 579.
Freshman Amy Fister put up a 577 and shot the Tigers' only perfect smallbore score, posting a 100 on her second prone position heat. Sophomore Nate Brandeburg and junior Max Burkhardtrounded out Memphis' top smallbore scores shooting a 571 and 565 respectively.
In Air Rifle, two Tigers notched top 10 marks and it was Lee that led the way for Memphis with 592, the fifth best mark of the day. Hermsmeier landed just two points behind Lee to shoot a 590.
Burkhardt, Fister and Brandeburg all finished within two points of each other. Burkhardt closed out his day with a 580 while Fister and Brandeburg both landed marks of 578.
Memphis now awaits their post-season fate that will be announced on Thursday a 5/4 CT during in the NCAA Rifle Championship selection show. To watch the selection show, follow this link.
The season is not over the Tigers regardless of their selection, as Memphis heads to Oxford, Miss. on Saturday for the start of the GARC Championships hosted by Ole Miss.
