Hermsmeier Finishes Third at Great American Rifle Conference Championships

OXFORD, Miss. - The Memphis rifle team competed at the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships over the weekend and finished sixth as a team while junior Dan Hermsmeier shot his way to a third place finish in the field of 61.
Hermsmeier shot a 583 in the individual smallbore finishing sixth and a 590 in air for seventh place. Hermsmeier's aggregate score of 1173 was third behind Petra Zublasing (1192) of West Virginia and Kentucky's Henri Junghänel.
After missing the entire fall season, sophomore Maya Arredondo put together a nice spring season that she capped off with personal bests in both smallbore and air rifle competitions over the weekend. In smallbore, Arredondo shot a 195 in prone position en route to a 574 for a tie at 25th.
Sophomore Max Burkhardt finished just four points behind Arredondo with a 570 and finished tied for 33rd.
Arredondo then came back on Sunday and posted a personal best in air as well, posting a 581 and finished tied for 40th.
Freshman Beth Lee and Burkhardt turned it up in air as well and finished tied for 32nd as they each put up a score of 584 for Memphis' second best air scores.
Senior Kelly Audet shot 579 in air and was tied for 42nd.
In the elite field composed of four top 10 school including Memphis, the Tigers finished sixth with an aggregate score of 4632. Memphis finished behind West Virginia, Kentucky, Nebraska, Army and Ole' Miss; ranked 1, 3, 6, 8 and 11 respectively.
As a team the Tigers wrapped up another successful season at the GARC Championships but Hermsmeier will continue to compete on March 8-9 in his third straight NCAA Championships set in Columbus, Ohio.
