Tiger Rifle Drops Close Match to Fourth-Ranked Murray State

MEMPHIS, TENN. - The University of Memphis rifle team hosted nationally ranked Murray State in a 60-shot air rifle match Sunday, and shot 2314 for the second-place finish.

Murray State, which is ranked fourth in the country, shot 2340 to win the event. Murray's Morgan Hicks was the individual leader of the tournament, shooting a 594. Memphis' Beth Tidmore finished second with a mark of 587.

Katie Benjamin placed fourth with a score of 584, while J.B. Vaughan and Brian Phillips placed eighth and ninth, respectively.

Earlier in the week, freshman Katie Benjamin was named the GARC (Great American Rifle Conference) Rookie of the Year as announced at the GARC Championship at West Point. In addition, she was named to the GARC 2nd team smallbore and 1st team air and was on the 2nd team combined ( Smallbore and Air). This was Memphis' first year to participate in the GARC.
