MURRAY, KY - After day one of the Memphis rifle team's first NCAA Championship appearance since 2005, the Tigers look like post-season veterans, shooting a smallbore team score of 2320 and currently sit in third place overall.

Memphis' score was good enough three of the top five teams in the country including No. 3 Kentucky, No. 4 Nebraska and No. 5 Jacksonville State.

Individually, sophomore Elizabeth Lee and senior Dan Hermsmeierboth posted top 10 scores in today's smallbore competition.

Lee qualified for the smallbore finals, scoring a 585 in her heat and putting her in fifth place entering the finals. Lee closed out the day, finishing in eighth place in the field of 44.

Hermsmeier shot a 582 and claimed the 10th place spot in the smallbore individual competition.

Freshman Amy Fister also put together a strong showing on day one with a top-20 finish, shooting a 579. Junior Max Burkhardtand sophomore Nate Brandeburg finished their relays just two points apart. Burkhardt with a 574 and Brandeburg a 572.

Sitting just a point behind second place Alaska and 18 behind reigning national champion West Virginia, the Tigers are well within striking distance heading into the Air Rifle on Saturday. Competition is set to kick off at 8:00 AM CT with the finals scheduled for 1:00 PM CT.
