No. 12 Memphis Rifle Finishes Third at Ole Miss Invite

OXFORD, Miss. - The University of Memphis rifle team got off to a good start in the 2013-14 season over the weekend, picking up a third place finish at the Ole Miss Invite; besting three top 15 programs and shot a program best aggregate of 4647.

No. 8 Jacksonville St. and No. 4 TCU finished first and second ahead of the Tigers respectively. Memphis topped No. 9 Murray State, No. 10 Ohio State and No. 11 Ole Miss.

Senior All-American Dan Hermsmeier stayed true to form and led the Tigers in both air and smallbore; missing out on the top spot in smallbore by just one point, shooting a 586 behind TCU's Megan Lee.

Hermsmeier tied for 12th in the air competition, shooting a 587.

Freshman Amy Fister had a great showing in her collegiate debut, tallying a smallbore score of 581 and tying for fifth overall.

The Tigers added another personal best smallbore score when Elizabeth Lee posted a 571 and put three Memphis shooters in the top 20 for the tournament.

Junior Max Burkhardt (568), junior Maya Arredondo (563), sophomore Nathan Brandeburg (557) and senior Jimmy Zaken (545) rounded out Memphis' smallbore scores.

In air rifle, Burkhardt tied a personal best, shooting a 586 right behind Hermsmeier to tie for 15th while Lee posted a 585 and a 19th place finish in the field of 97.

Arredondo added another top 25 finish for the Tigers, scoring a 584 and a tie for 22nd.
