Tiger Rifle Drops Matches to Nebraska and Army

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Memphis rifle team shot in a duo of matches over the weekend at the UNL Rifle Range on campus at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Tigers fell to Nebraska by a margin of 4,601 to 4,574. Memphis posted a team total of 2,272 in smallbore compared to the Huskers’ 2,227. Nebraska also topped Memphis in air rifle by a total of 2,324 to 2,302. Freshmen Dan Hermsmeier led Memphis in Smallbore, posting a six-round aggregate of 580, including a perfect score of 100 in the first round of shooting. Hermsmeier’s total beat out the Huskers’ Katie Kostak by one point. Kelly Audet and Kaitlynn Lee led Memphis in air rifle with aggregate scores of 576. In its next match, Memphis faced off against Army and fell by just five points (4,586-4,581). The Tigers defeated Army in air rifle by a margin of 2,321 to 2,294 behind Jessica Phenis’ match-high 588 aggregate score. The Black Knights outshot Memphis 2,292 to 2,260 in smallbore to win the match, however. The Tigers were led by Hermsmeier’s smallbore total of 578. Memphis rifle has nearly a month off before they travel to Morgantown, W. Va. On Nov. 6 to shoot against the 14-time national champion West Virginia Mountaineers. -www.gotigersgo.com-
