No. 10 Memphis Rifle Team has Strong Showing at Ole Miss Invite

OXFORD, Miss. - The Memphis Rifle team proved its top 10 national ranking last week at the Ole Miss Invitational, finishing fifth in the field of 14 with an aggregate score of 4600.
The Tigers topped five other top 20 schools including Ohio State (6th), UT-Martin (7th), Columbus St. (8th), the University of Nevada (9th) and UT-Martin women (11th) while falling show of top 10 opponents TCU, JSU, Ole Miss and Murray State. TCU to top honors with team score of 4707.
Individually, junior standout, Dan Hermsmeier shot a 579 in the smallbore competition, good enough for a tie for fifth place while TCU shooters took the top four spots.
Freshman Nate Brandeburg and sophomore Max Burkhardt finished neck-and-neck in smallbore with Brandeburg compiling a 567 and Burkhardt just one point behind with a 566.
Memphis made up ground in the Air Rifle competition as senior Kelly Audet, Hermsmeier and Burkhardt all finished in the top 25. Audet led the pack, shooting 585 and tying for 12th overall. Hermsmeier finished just one point behind Audet with a 584 and tie for 16th. Burkhardt tied for 24th and shot a 582 to round out the Tigers' top three.
Freshmen Beth Lee and Brandeburg and junior Jimmy Zaken also posted key performances in Air Rifle. Lee posted a score of 578 while Brandeburg and Zaken finished back-to-back with 559 and 558 respectively.
The Memphis Rifle team continues its fall campaign on Monday, October 15 in West Point, N.Y. when it takes No. 6 Army.
