No. 11 Memphis Rifle Defeats No. 10 Murray State and No. 13 Nebraska in Weekend Action
Jan. 17, 2012 MURRAY, Ky.- The University of Memphis rifle team won a pair of matches versus No. 10 Murray State and No. 13 Nebraska, over the weekend. On Saturday, the Tigers took on host Murray State and defeated the Racers in both smallbore (2302-2298) and air rifle disciplines (2338-2330), leading to a 4640-4628 overall competition victory. Memphis' 4640 tally is a season-high for the team. In smallbore, the Tigers were paced by sophomore Dan Hermsmeier (583) and senior Kaitlynn Lee (career-high 575). In air rifle, senior Jessica Phenis led the Tigers with a mark of 588, which narrowly edged teammate Dan Hermsmeier, who shot 586. Tiger rifle followed-up their Saturday victory over the Racers with competition versus No. 13 Nebraska on Sunday, defeating the Cornhuskers 4624-4600. Memphis won the smallbore discipline, edging Nebraska by a margin of 2300-2271. The Tigers top shooters were Dan Hermsmeier (583), junior Kelly Audet (574) and sophomore Linn Larsen(573). Nebraska claimed victory in air rifle 2329-2324, despite Kelly Audet recording a career-best mark of 593. Dan Hermsmeiertrailed Audet with a tally of 581. No. 11 Memphis' next competition is slated for Jan. 25, when the Tigers are set to travel to UT Martin for the Skyhawk Invitational.
