The U of M rifle squad placed third overall in the 2005 Sectionals hosted by Murray State. The Tigers shot 2290 in smallbore and 2334 in air for an aggregate total of 4624. Jacksonville State won the event with a total of 4657, while Kentucky placed second with a score of 4633.

Beth Tidmore and Katie Benjamin finished second and third, respectively, in air rifle to help the Tigers place second in the event. Tidmore turned in a 590, while Benjamin posted a 589. Both had one perfect target in the event. Krissey Bahnsen placed ninth with a 584 as the only other Tiger to place in the top 10. Bobbie Lee Prewit shot 575 with Brian Phillips following with a 573, and J.B. Vaughan posting a 571.

In smallbore, which the Tigers placed third, Tidmore was Memphis' top shooter with a score of 575. She placed 11th, while Benjamin followed in the No. 12 spot with a mark of 574. Phillips placed in the top 20 with a total of 571, while Bahnsen was 22nd with a score of 570. Vaughan turned in a total of 557 in the event.
