Hermsmeier Finishes 21st at NCAA Rifle Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - University of Memphis sophomore marksman Dan Hermsmeier finished 21st in the smallbore discipline of the NCAA Rifle Championships in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend.
Hermsmeier gunned scores of 99-97-97-91-96-96--576-24*, throughout the two-day competition, to place 21st out of 48 total competitors.
Four shooters, including Hermsmeier, rifled scores of 576 and the tie breaker went to center shots. Hermsmeier recorded a center shot score of 24, placing the Memphis sophomore behind Jennifer Armendariz of UTEP, who gunned scores 98-100-87-96-99-96--576-30*.
TCU junior Sarah Scherer won the smallbore individual championship by firing scores of 99-100-99-98-97-96--589-31*.
Hermsmeier's performance earned him first-team All-America honors, marking the second All-America award of his two-year career.
Last season as a freshman, The Chesterfield, Mo., native earned second-team All-America honors.
Junior Kelly Audet was also honored at the NCAA Rifle Championships, amassing enough earned points throughout the 2011-12 season to qualify for second-team All-America. The Omaha, Neb., native becomes Memphis' second All-America honoree for the 2011-12 campaign.
Tiger Rifle also placed seven student-athletes on the Collegiate Rifle Coaches' Association All-Academic List, including: Dan Hermsmeier, Kelly Audet, Jessica Phenis, Linn Larsen, Max Burkhardt, Maya Arredondo and Jimmy Zaken.
