The Memphis Rifle team begins its 2012-13 season on Saturday, September 29, hosting the Tiger Open.

Led by All-Americans, Kelly Audet and Dan Hermsmeier, the Tigers will look to improve on a sixth place Conference finish from last season.

Last season Audet was named to her first National Rifle Association (NRA) All-America team as well as to the All-Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) team. She was named to the second-team on both.

Hermsmeier made the NRA All-America team for his second straight season with last season being a first-team honor after finishing 21st the NCAA Championships in the smallbore competition.

Both Hermsmeier and Audet started last season with individual titles at the season opening Tiger Open; Hermsmeier with the smallbore title shooting a 581 and Audet with the air rifle title shooting a 590.

Along with Audet and Hermsmeier, the Tigers return three letter-winners in junior Jimmy Zaken and sophomores Maya Arrendondo and Max Burkhardt. All three competed in the Tiger Open last season and were key contributors to Memphis's second place finish in the event.

Two new faces join the rifle team this season with freshmen Nathan Brandeburg and Beth Lee. Brandeburg comes to Memphis after a successful career at Hershey High School in Hershey, Pennsylvania where he placed seventh at the 2011 Junior Olympic Rifle Championships and set five national shooting records.

A Tennessee native, Lee comes to Memphis from after a decorated career with the Blue Dragons rifle team in Knoxville, Tennessee. Lee served as the team captain from 2011-12 and was the 2012 Tennessee State smallbore Champion and the 2012 NRA Open Sectional International Air Rifle Champion.

The Memphis rifle team earned itself a No. 14 preseason ranking in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Top 20 Coaches Poll a few weeks ago and will look to move up the rankings as it will face a very competitive schedule this season.
