Oxford, Miss. - University of Memphis sophomore marksman Dan Hermsmeier tied for first place air rifle honors and finished fourth in smallbore as Memphis lost its first dual match of the season to Army 4663 to 4605, on Saturday.

The sophomore Chesterfield, Mo., native's 585 air rifle mark tied Richard Calvin of Army for top honors, as Memphis' air rifle team efforts fell just short of Army 2328 to 2311.

In the smallbore category, Memphis was once again led by Hermsmeier, whose 581 performance placed him fourth, while teammates Jessica Phenis finished sixth (575) and Max Burkhardt placed eighth (571).

As a team, the Tigers fell to Army 4663 (2335-2328) to 4605 (2294-2311).

The U of M will now use the next three weeks to prepare for their next competition, a dual match at West Virginia on Oct. 29.
