Tyler Shelton begins his first season as a Tiger assistant and will help head coach Dave Anderson direct the Tiger infield this spring.

Shelton, one of the finest fielding third basemen in recent Tiger history, started all 58 games and committed only three errors during the 2001 season. In his two seasons as a Tiger, Shelton started 109 games and committed only 11 errors over that span. At the plate, Shelton held a .281 career average with 19 doubles and six home runs.

Prior to becoming a Tiger, Shelton was a two-time all-America selection at Lincoln Land Community College. Over his two years at Lincoln Land, Shelton batted .431 with 11 home runs and 112 RBI.

Shelton will receive a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Memphis in the summer of 2002.
