First scrimmage slated for Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Hired on July 1, 2009, Jason Smith begins his first full season as Coordinator of Athletic Facilites at the University of Memphis.
Smith is charged with oversight of all Memphis athletics fields (FedExPark, Tiger Softball Complex, Tiger football and soccer practice field and the new golf facility) and athletic buildings at the University's Park Avenue Campus. In addition, he maintains Echles Soccer Field on the University's main campus. Smith responsibilities include preparing the fields for daily practice and incollegiate events and competitions.
Smith is no stranger to the Mid-South area, having served as the Head Sports Turf Manager at USA Stadium for two years before coming to the U of M. Smith brings a wealth of field facilities maintenance to the University's athletic programs. He has worked as the Assistant Golf Course Superintendant at the Longboat Key Club Resort in Sarasota, Fla, as well as working as the Assistant Sports Turf Manager at Mississippi State.
A native of Starkville, Miss., Smith lettered in baseball, basketball and football at Hebron Christian School and then went on to Mississippi State where earned his bachelor's degree in golf and sports turf management.
Smith is married to the former Jessica Reese.
