MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Sophomore third baseman Kyle Scott's two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth gave Memphis a 6-3 victory over Air Force at the Service Academies Classic at the USA Baseball Stadium in Millington, Tenn., Friday evening.

Scott was 2-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs, including a 420-foot solo shot that started the Memphis scoring and tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

Air Force countered with two unanswered runs on a solo home run in the third and an RBI single in the top of the seventh, giving the Falcons a 3-1 advantage.

Memphis came back in the bottom of the seventh on back-to-back home runs from sophomore left fielder Josh Payne and freshman shortstop Brent Dlugach.

Junior left-hander Zach Cook held the Falcons in check in the top of the eighth, and Memphis went into the bottom half with the score tied at three. Senior catcher Barrett Smith walked with one out and advanced to third after junior designated hitter Justin Thomas singled just over the glove of the Air Force shortstop. Scott then sent a hanging slider over the left field wall for the dramatic game-winner.

Cook scattered two hits and struck out three over 3.0 innings for the win. Senior right-hander Matt Krabbe surrendered two runs on three hits and struck out four over 6.0 innings for a no-decision in his first start of the season.

Scott, Payne and junior right fielder Paul Cookman all had two hits for the Tigers.

Memphis heads back to the USA Baseball Complex tomorrow for a double-header with Villanova and Navy, beginning at 1 p.m.
