Baseball Falls to UConn, 3-1
March 11, 2005
MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Connecticut hurler Tim Norton (1-0) scattered four hits and held Memphis to just one run in eight innings as the Huskies defeated the Tigers 3-1 in the nightcap of the USA Challenge. Memphis (4-5) falls under .500 for the first time this year and has now dropped three straight.
UConn (7-3) got on the board first in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly from Matt Karl, scoring Austin Wasserman. The Huskies would then score on a groundball out in the second and an RBI double from Tony Mallozzi in the fourth.
That would be all they needed as Memphis was held hitless through three and one third innings, before Chad House broke the drought with one of his two hits on the night.
Memphis scored its lone run in the ninth on an RBI-single by Robbie Goss.
Stephen Gostkowski was the losing pitcher despite a strong outing in which he held the Huskies to just five hits in seven innings. Norton got the win, while reliever Ted Garry picked up the save.
Memphis will now prepare for a 10 a.m. matchup with Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday.
