Offense Rolls as Memphis Pounds Saint Peter's

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After scoring four runs over the last 22 innings of play, the University of Memphis baseball team posted a 12-3 victory over Saint Peter's in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at FedExPark.
After allowing one run in the first, Holland settled in and retired nine straight batters. Holland allowed one run in six innings of work and allowed five hits. He struck out seven for the third-straight time and walked a season-low one batter. Sam Moll relieved Holland in the seventh and picked up his first career save with three innings in relief and he allowed two runs on three hits. Moll struck out four and walked two.
Memphis (7-4) tied the game in the third off a Chad Zurcher RBI-double off the left field wall. Chapman scored after reaching base on a lead-off walk. With the score in the third, Memphis plated its 20th run following a lead-off batter in an inning reaching base.
Memphis put the game out of reach in the fifth with a seven-run inning. A lead-off walk to Zurcher, Robby Graham stepped to the plate and belted a home run to right field to put the Tigers ahead 5-1. Jacob Wilson singled and stole second and third base and scored on a Chapman RBI-single. T.J. Rich scored after an RBI-single by Picou and the Tigers added three more runs following a St. Peter's error to take a 10-1 lead into the sixth inning.
The U of M added two more runs in the sixth off an RBI-single by Rich to take a 12-1 lead. Five different players led Memphis with two hits each and Picou led the U of M with three RBI. Rich and Graham had two RBI each for the Tigers. Memphis and Saint Peter's (3-7) meet for game two of the doubleheader at approximately 3:25 p.m.
