Moll's 10 K's Propel Tigers Past Devils 7-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After four games away from the friendly confines of FedExPark, the University of Memphis Baseball team returned to their home venue with a doubleheader game one victory over Mississippi Valley State University, 7-0. With the win, the Tigers advance to 13-10 on the season.
Tiger southpaw Sam Moll made his second-straight midweek start and registered a career-high 10 strikeouts. He pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed just four hits and walked two. Moll picked up his first career win to improve to 1-1 on the season. Blake Myers pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Moll and he allowed no hits and struck out two batters.
Walks of Drew Martinez and Robby Graham allowed the Tigers to light the scoreboard first. With runners at first and second, junior Jacob Wilson logged an RBI single to centerfield. T.J. Rich then knocked in the Tigers' second run with an RBI single of his own. With two outs, Rich was caught in a run-down attempting to steal second, but not before Jacob Wilson scored from third to end the inning.
The Tigers' bats warmed-up again in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Martinez connected on 1-2 pitch, driving in two runs (McClain and Hynes). Chad Zurcher then logged an RBI single to centerfield, scoring Eli Hynes for the Tigers' sixth run of the contest.
Chad Zurcher, the nation's leading hitter, lifted his batting average to .494 in the bottom of the eighth inning when he knocked in an RBI single to score Drew Martinez. Zurcher finished the game with three hits and two RBI to lead the Tiger offense. Martinez and Chapman had two hits and each and seven Tigers recorded a hit in the game.
Memphis will look to complete the mid-week series sweep with game two of the doubleheader slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
