MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - After stranding two Tigers on base in the first, the University of Memphis baseball team (15-11) incited a barrage of runs in the second run, downing, Alcorn State (10-15) 15-5 at FedExPark on Saturday. Jacob Wilson and T.J. Rich each drove in three RBIs in the win, while Eli Hynes added two RBIs and a solo shot home run, his fifth of the season.

In the bottom of the second inning, junior Drew Martinez instigated an offensive ambush that would tally a total of seven runs on six hits and one Alcorn State error. Martinez lofted a shot to left field, scoring Eli Hynes who got on base via walk. In the ensuing at bat, Chad Zurcher reached base on a fielding error by the Braves third baseman. That error allowed Martinez to cross the plate for the Tigers' second score of the afternoon. Junior Jacob Wilson then took to the plate, driving in Zurcher on a long RBI double to left center. T.J. Rich then found the same spot, driving in Wilson with an RBI double of his own. Another shot, this time to shallow left, by Phillip Chapman drove in Rich. Robby Graham soon smacked a hard-hit shot to right center, allowing Chapman to cross the plate.

In the third inning, the Tigers picked up where they left off. A two-out double to right center by Martinez, and a walk of Zurcher, allowed Wilson to step to the plate and zip an RBI single to shallow center field. With runners at first and second, Rich then stepped to the plate and drove in Memphis' ninth run of the afternoon (Zurcher).

The bottom of the fourth brought about more Tiger runs. With one out, junior Adam McClain knocked a triple to right field. Ethan Gross, playing in his ninth start of the season, then popped a sac fly to right field, scoring McClain.

The Tigers tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh when Wilson connected for his second double on the day, scoring Martinez. Rich then logged his third hit of the afternoon, singling up the middle and driving in Zurcher. Zurcher was 0-for-3 on the day, but reached base three times, scoring each time. He was walked once and hit by a pitch by two different pitchers late in the game. The 0-fer number snapped a 15-game hitting streak for Zurcher, who entered the weekend with the nation's leading batting average. Wilson then scored on a J.D. Wallace RBI. Alcorn State notched its first runs of the day in the eighth off of Tiger starter Ryan Holland when Perdomo ripped a two RBI shot to right center field.

After taking an inning off, the Tigers bats warmed up once more when an Eli Hynes' sac fly scored Graham, Memphis' 11th run of the day.

In the eighth, Eli Hynes connected for his second homerun of the weekend on a 365-foot shot right at the FedExPark scoreboard.

In the final inning of the contest, Alcorn's Harry Ferguson doubled down the right field line off T.J. Rich, who moved to the mound from first base in the final inning of the day, scoring the Braves' third run of the day (Rowan). Pinch hitter Darryl Parks reached on a fielding error, scoring Ferguson. A sac fly to right allowed Parks to cross the plate for Alcorn's fifth and final run.

Team captain Ryan Holland pitched eight innings, logging four strikeouts, three force outs and three walks.

Memphis will look to contend for the series sweep tomorrow, April 3, at FedExPark. First pitch is slated to be thrown at 1 p.m.
