Memphis baseball dropped an 11-3 decision to No. 14 East Carolina at AutoZone Park on Saturday afternoon.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, freshman shortstop Brent Dlugach pulled the Tigers even with a solo home run to right, but the Pirates responded with a six-run rally in the top of the seventh and added two more in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

Freshman right hander Michael Novarese had another solid start for the Tigers. The Holly Springs, Miss., native was credited with five runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out two over 6.1 innings in the loss.

Senior designated hitter Jay Fik was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to pace the Tiger offense. Dlugach and junior first baseman Andy Gesell had two hits apiece and each scored a run.

Memphis (15-24, 7-13 C-USA) is back in action tomorrow when its hosts East Carolina (32-10-1, 12-7-1 C-USA) in the final game of a three-game Conference USA set at AutoZone Park at 12:30 p.m.
