Box Score

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Jarrett Grube (2-5) scattered four hits and struck out seven to record the Tigers first complete game shutout since the Feb. 28, 1999, and Brent Dlugach blasted two home runs, one of which was a grand slam, as Memphis (14-28, 5-14 C-USA) raced to a 7-0 victory in Game one of Sunday's Conference USA doubleheader with Charlotte (16-20, 7-10 C-USA) at Fieldcrest Stadium.

Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after leftfielder Chad House lined a single to centerfield and then moved to second on errant pickoff attempt at first base by Charlotte catcher Randell Poplin. Bill Moss was hit by a Zachary Treadway pitch on the next at-bat. With runners on first and second and one out, Kurt Welch provided the Tigers with an RBI double down the leftfield line to plate Chad House.

Chad House led the third inning off with his second single to center. Moss then tripled off the leftfield wall for the first time in his career to bring House around for a 2-0 U of M advantage.

The Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the fourth on a solo blast by shortstop Dlugach, his second of the year.

Memphis put the ballgame out of reach in the top of the sixth after Ryan Martin led off the frame with a lined-single to right, Kyle Scott drew a walk and Lewis reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Dlugach followed with his second round-tripper of the afternoon, a grand slam to left that gave Memphis a 7-0 lead.

Dlugach paced the Tiger offense with a 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored, while Chad House scored twice on a 2-for-4 performance. Centerfielder Kevin House and Moss each added a hit to extend their hitting streaks to nine and seven games respectively.

Brad Lamm led the Niners offense going 2-for-3, while George Sandel and Thomas Bowker were the only other 49ers to collect a hit in the contest.

Treadway (6-3) was saddled with the loss for the 49ers, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and striking out five in five innings.
