Baseball Falls 16-5 At Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Memphis baseball dropped a 16-5 decision to Southern Miss at Pete Taylor Park on Friday night.
The 16-run total matched a season high for runs allowed by the Tigers. Memphis allowed 16 runs in its third game against Houston, another Conference USA rival. With the win, Southern Miss moves to within one game of first place in the C-USA standing. Memphis is now a combined 0-10 against teams in the top five of the conference standings.
Memphis starter Nick Steht gave up just four hits and allowed eight runs, one of which was earned. The Tiger defense committed four errors that resulted in eight unearned runs.
Senior catcher Barrett Smith was 2-for-3 with a double and a two-run home run, his sixth of the season. Freshman centerfielder Jordan Hart and freshman second baseman Chris Godwin each had two hits and drove in a run.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow when they take on Southern Miss in the second game of a three-game Conference USA series at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg, Miss., at 2 p.m.
