White, Willis Power @MemphisBaseball Past Cincinnati
May 10, 2014
The bases clearing double by White sparked the Tigers to a four-run fourth inning to stake the U of M to a 4-0 lead. Three-straight singles loaded the bases for White and he slammed a double off the right-centerfield wall to clear the bases. A RBI groundout by Ethan Gross capped off the big inning.
Cincinnati answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Tigers answered back in the fifth with three more to hold a 7-2 advantage. A leadoff double by Zach Schritenthal set the table. After a sacrifice bunt, Zach Willis made it 5-2 with a RBI single. Kane Barrow followed with a single before a wild pitch had two runners in scoring position. Jake Little picked up an RBI on a groundout and White picked up his fourth RBI of the game with a single to right field to make it 7-2.
Willis hit his first home run of the season, the third of his career, in the sixth to increase the Tigers lead to 9-2. Schritenthal walked and scored on the home run that clanked off the scoreboard in right field. Memphis continued to add runs, scoring two in the seventh to expand the lead to 11-2. Bryce Beeler and Keaton Aldridge picked up RBI in the frame while White doubled for the second time.
Memphis starter Jon Reed (7-2) earned the win as he pitched eight innings and allows two runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking three. White and Willis each finished with three hit games and Willis scored three runs and drove in three. Barrow, Little and Beeler had two-hit games as the Tigers out-hit Cincinnati 15-7.
Memphis tries for its first conference series win on Sunday in the 12 p.m. (CT) game at Marge Schott Stadium.
