SAINT LOUIS, Mo. - Memphis dropped both games of a Conference USA doubleheader to Saint Louis, 2-1 in the opener and 11-5 in the nightcap, at the Billiken Sports Center on Saturday afternoon. The losses drop Memphis from the C-USA playoff race.

Down 1-0 through six innings in game one, senior catcher stroked his fourth home run in three games in the top of the seventh to bring the Tigers even at 1-1. Senior starter Nick Steht held the Tigers even into the eighth inning, Steht allowed one unearned runs and scattered four hits over 7.2 innings.

After walking a batter with two out in the eighth, Steht was lifted for closer Josh Payne, who got the Billiken three-hitter to ground into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

Tiger centerfielder Jordan Hart doubled to lead off the ninth, but was stranded as the potential go-ahead run.

Then with one out in the bottom of the ninth, Billiken pitcher Corey Lawson drove in the game-winner with a floating single to centerfield.

After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in game two, the Tigers couldn't muster another run until the eighth inning and allowed 11-unanswered Billiken runs form the third through the seventh for the 11-5 loss.

Junior right fielder Paul Cookman was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI and freshman centerfielder Jordan Hart was 2-for-4 and scored a run to help pace the Tiger offense.

Junior right-hander Matt Fry allowed just one hit and struck out one over 1.1 innings.

The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Murray State at Nat Buring Stadium at 7 p.m.
