MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis baseball wrapped-up its 2002 season with a 7-5 victory over Charlotte on senior day at Nat Buring Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers hadn't led until the bottom of the ninth when sophomore third baseman Kyle Scott drove in junior designated hitter Justin Thomas and sophomore left fielder Josh Payne for a 7-5 lead.

Senior left-hander Gabe Council picked up his first collegiate win, allowing just one hit in 0.2 innings in the sixth. Senior Ryan O'Malley fired 2.0 perfect innings for his first career save.

Payne and senior centerfielder Paul Reuer led the way for the Tiger offense. Payne was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Reuer was 2-for-3 with three runs scored in his final game as a Tiger.

All but one Tiger senior - Nick Steht, who pitched five innings in his Friday night start - appeared in this game. Seniors Barrett Smith, Jay Fik, Reuer and Thomas combined for four hits and four runs, while senior pitchers Matt Krabbe, Council and O'Malley allowed just one run on one hit over the last four innings.

The Tigers finished the 2002 season with a four-game winning streak and 20 wins. After sweeping Charlotte this weekend, Memphis improved to 20-31 (10-20, C-USA).
