Chase Joiner (4-4) posted his third complete-game shutout of the season as he allowed five hits over eight innings. Joiner didn't walk a batter and struck out four. Joiner was forced to work out of a first inning jam, as Houston mounted a two-out scoring threat. Back-to-back two-out singles followed by a walk loaded the bases for the Cougars, but Joiner struck out Price Jacobs on a called third strike to keep the game scoreless.

The lower third of the Tigers lineup set the table for a big inning as the trio hit two singles and walked to load the bases for leadoff man Ethan Gross. Gross got the Tigers on the board with a two-RBI single to right field and Jacob Wilson followed with a RBI double down the left field line to give the U of M a 4-0 lead. Eli Hynes laced a single down the right field line to score Wilson and T.J. Rich drove in Hynes to give Memphis the six-run inning.

With the RBI double in the third, Jacob Wilson moves to second in program history with 62 on his career. The RBI moved him seven RBI shy of tying Adam Amar for first in program history with 192 RBI. He later scored to move into second place all-time with 166 runs scored.

Jacob Wilson added his second double of the day, 63rd of his career, in the fourth and Ford Wilson scored on the play to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. Ford Wilson reached on a walk and moved to third on a failed pickoff attempt that got away at first base. Jacob Wilson got his 187th career RBI with the double to right-center to score Ford Wilson.

Rich added another RBI in the fifth to increase the Tigers lead to 8-0. A leadoff walk to Derrick Thomas accounted for the run as Thomas stole second and scored on the RBI single by Rich. Memphis tacked on three runs in the eighth to set the final margin of 11-0. McClain was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to add the first run and Hynes drove in one with a fielder's choice RBI. Thomas added the final RBI with a single through the left side.

Jacob Wilson led the club with three hits on the day and Gross, Hynes, and Rich each added two hits. The Tigers ended the day having out-hit the Cougars 13-5.

The 14 conference wins are the most for the U of M since realignment in 2006. The 14-10 record in C-USA play marks the highest win percentage for the Tigers in league play since entering the league in 1996.

The Tigers will await the release of the bracket for the 2012 Conference USA Baseball Championship presented by Trustmark to see dates and times for the next game. The three-game pod play tournament begins on Wednesday in Pearl, Miss. The complete bracket and game times will be released at approximately 5 p.m. today.
