Jan. 18, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – College Sports Madness has named junior pitcher Sam Moll to its Conference USA Preseason All-Conference First Team, the staff at College Sports Madness announced Friday.
“We are very excited for Sam and to see him get preseason accolades speaks volumes to the year he had as a sophomore,” head coach Daron Schoenrock said. “We expect him to lead the staff this year and his leadership will be very important.”
Moll finished 2012 with a 5-5 record and a 3.48 ERA. The second team All-C-USA selection posted a one-hit shutout at Marshall last season and in a six-game stretch he allowed five earned runs over 44.2 innings. The southpaw enters his junior season with an 8-6 record and 3.24 career ERA.
“We have a lot of quality arms this year, but not many of those are experienced at this level,” Schoenrock said. “He has that experience as a starter and we will look to him to lead us and show us the way this season.”
Memphis opens the season against Illinois State on Friday, February 15 at FedExPark. First pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m. Head Coach Daron Schoenrock has scheduled the preseason banquet for Saturday, February 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Turf Room at the Murphy Complex.
