Memphis will field a 2014 squad that features 11 newcomers. GoTigersGo.com introduces you to junior left-handed pitcher Caleb Wallingford as part of the Around the Horn series of question and answers with newcomers.

Wallingford played last season for McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. He is a native of Elkhorn, Neb., where he lettered three years for Elkhorn High School.

Question 1: Why did you choose to play for the Tigers?

Caleb: Coach Rock recruited me. He talked about the success they've had with the pitchers here and what they were about here with this program. It sounded appealing to me.

Question 2: What's been the biggest adjustment you've had to make getting back to Division I?

Caleb: I think that 1-9 everybody's a tough out. There are no freebies. That's probably the biggest difference.

Question 3: Whose your favorite MLB player, and why?

Caleb: Jon Lester. He's a workhorse and carries a heavy inning load every year, and carries his staff along with him.

Question 4: If you didn't play baseball, what sport would you choose to play, and why?

Caleb: Football. I played in high school and loved it. I ended up just choosing baseball because I felt like it could take me farther.

Question 5: What's your favorite thing to do when you're not on the field?

Caleb: I'm a big movie buff - comedy, drama. I'm what they would probably call a cinefile. I just love all kinds of movies.

Question 6: What is your favorite restaurant in Memphis?

Caleb: I like going to Ching's Hot Wings. They don't have anything like Ching's where I'm from.

Question 7: How did you get started playing baseball?

Caleb: Me and my brothers when we were younger would play in the backyard for hours upon hours a day. Then I started playing organized (baseball) around nine.

Question 8: What's your favorite TV show?

Caleb: Seinfeld

Question 9: What would be your favorite walkup song?

Caleb: Last year I had "The Blueprint 2" by Jay-Z. Not sure about this year yet. Probably something by Jay-Z or Drake, those are my two favorite artists.

Question 10: Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?

Caleb: Not really. I usually go through a routine in everything. As far as superstitions go, I usually try to stick to my routine.

Question 11: What country would you most like to visit?

Caleb: Greece or Italy

Question 12: What parts of your game are you trying to improve?

Caleb: Being out in the fall, I'm trying to repeat my delivery well every time and strive to continue to be more consistent.

Question 13: What's your favorite thing about Memphis?

Caleb: The guys on the team. It's a tight-knit group. They make you feel welcome from day one.

Question 14: What's one thing your teammates would be surprised to know about you?

Caleb: I like to read.

Question 15: Who is the guy in the clubhouse that keeps it most upbeat?

Caleb: I'd have to say Ford (Wilson) or Darien (Tubbs). Darien's locker is right next to mine so we joke around quite a bit. Ford's a firecracker.
