MEMPHIS, Tenn.- University of Memphis baseball supporters were treated to a dynamic address from Memphis basketball head coach John Calipari at Sunday evening's 2009 "Meet the Tigers" preseason baseball banquet.

"Obviously it was a wonderful night for everyone involved with Tiger baseball," said head coach Daron Schoenrock. "It was a treat to listen to Coach Cal in the middle of another great championship run. We always know when we get our banquet out of the way, it's time to really start to focus on the season and that's the direction that we are going now and our guys are really looking forward to playing."

Sponsored by the Memphis baseball Bullpen Club, the preseason event was attended by over 300 supporters of the program. The winningest coach in Memphis basketball history, Calipari delivered an inspiring and energetic talk on overcoming adversity and staying positive to be successful. He urged fans to get involved in the program to help it become one of the elite in both Conference USA and the nation.

The Tigers will look to take some of Calipari's points in the 2009 season that opens on Fri., Feb. 20 against Kansas in the Service Academies Spring Classic at Millington's USA Stadium. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
